Join us at the University of Chicago for three days of learning.
Designed in partnership with the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement and the Institute for the Formation of Knowledge, this three-day workshop is a unique opportunity to delve into the following questions:
How can educators use the city as a classroom?
How can place-based learning advance the civic engagement of students?
How can inquiry skills improve learner engagement?
What are the characteristics of deep learning (as opposed to surface and strategic learning) and how can teachers facilitate deep learning?
How can educators design learning experiences that amplify the voices of local experts and historians in order to deepen students' interest in history?
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
This workshop is open to educators interested in civic engagement, learning beyond the classroom and learner-centered approaches. We will bring together a diverse group of educators from secondary and post-secondary contexts and from after-school and arts settings. All are welcome. This may be of particular interest to educators in humanities-focused disciplines.
